A resident of Redcliffe - KZN was stabbed in the foot (picture 2) while apprehending a suspect this morning (Tuesday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from a resident of Azalea Place at approximately 07:19. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered the suspect bleeding excessively from blunt force trauma to his head. A second male was bleeding from a penetrating wound to his foot.

It was established that the suspect was in the process of stealing copper pipes. A resident witnessing the theft in progress attempted to apprehend the thief. A scuffle ensued during which the suspect produced a large kitchen knife (picture 3) and stabbed the man on his foot. Other residents intervened and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was injured during the apprehension. One resident confirmed that the same male robbed him of his cellphone at knifepoint on Friday (25/10/2024).

The habitual criminal was placed under arrest and detained at SAPS Verulam.
