  • 119649 – HANDLE AND USE A HANDGUN

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

This unit standard is for anyone who privately uses a handgun and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation. Persons credited with this unit standard are capable of:

  • Handling a handgun.
  • Using a handgun.
  • Carrying out basic inspection and maintenance of a handgun for safe use.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

It is assumed that learners are already competent in terms of the following unit standards:

  • 117705: Demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Act No. 60 of 2000)
  • Communication NQF Level 2.

All training is subject to terms and conditions (refer to link). DefenceStore markets and promotes firearm-related services but does not offer these services directly. All firearm sales and training are managed and facilitated by ERSC Training & Tactics (Pty) Ltd (ERSC), a licensed and accredited provider and dealer. All sales and services are subject to ERSC's terms and conditions.

PROCESS FOR BASIC UNIT STANDARDS

  • STEP 1: Pay for and collect manuals from us in-store @ 111 5th Avenue, Northmead, Benoni.
  • STEP 2: Study & complete in-book tests in your own time at home.
  • STEP 3: Complete 1 lecture day (held on Mondays and Wednesdays excl. public holidays from 09H00 to 15H00) and write an exam at the end of the day. 
  • STEP 4: Provided you’ve passed all your written tests, you’ll be booked for your shooting practical (held Fridays and Saturdays for about an hour)
  • STEP 5: Once ready and notified as such, you’ll collect your document pack for you to complete with your personal details. 
  • STEP 6: Submit application to SAPS for competency approval.
